FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Liming Crops Found Essential in Belize
Many years of heavy rainfall, fertilizer application, and farming have caused the pH value of soil to decrease in Belize. Unfortunately, the benefits of liming soil with agriculture lime (or white lime) are not fully understood by every farmer. With agriculture being of high importance in Belize, making use of liming techniques is crucial to the industry.
Rather sugar, citrus, banana, rice, corn, or any other type of crop; you are not immune to acidic soils. Most farmers understand that applying agriculture lime will increase a soils pH value so that more nutrients become available and thus increase yield. Additionally, having the correct pH level in your soil allows for optimal use of fertilizer, herbicides, and decreases toxic nutrients.
However, even with a proper pH level, liming your soil is vital to maintaining a proper balance of calcium and magnesium. Neal Kinsey of Kinsey Agricultural Services, Inc. has stated: “One of the major limiting factors, in agricultural, is understanding the importance of Calcium; when it’s necessary, how much to use, and what it will do for your crop in terms of yield and nutrient value.”
Without proper amounts of calcium: root systems will be underdeveloped, organic matter won’t decay as readily, and it will be difficult for plants to take up nutrients from the soil. Without the proper amounts of magnesium: plants will experience lowered photosynthesis, effecting plant growth.

About Limbe: Limbe is located in Spanish Lookout, Belize and has been a family business since 1976. We first started delivering white lime to farmers in Southern Belize because of their acidic soil (often around a pH of 4.5). Over time we discovered that white lime is also beneficial in providing much needed calcium and magnesium for optimal crop growth. Our products include: white lime (ag lime), road material, stones/rocks, and topsoil/compost.
